Text "Haiti" to Celebrate Third Day's GRAMMYs This Sunday!

Here's another way to celebrate Third Day's GRAMMY wins this Sunday by giving to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. (See the post below for the full explanation of what we are doing.)

As you are watching the pre-telecast part of the GRAMMYs on www.GRAMMY.com/Live, every time Third Day, or any of your other favorite artists wins an award, make a donation by texting the word “HAITI” to 40579 on your mobile phone. Your $10 donation will be added to your phone bill. (Standard text messaging rates may apply.)

Your donation will go to the NRB's (National Religious Broadcasters) Haiti Relief Fund. They’re working with NRB member organizations like Compassion International, Samaritan’s Purse, and Operation Blessing, who are qualified to bring both material help and spiritual hope to those in need. And it couldn't be easier than to give by texting!

Watch Third Day (and some of us Gomers) on the Broadcast of the Houston "Music Re-Builds Tour"

When the Music Builds Tour came to Houston on October 3, it was more than just another stop on the tour. The Houston/Galveston area was devastated by Hurricane Ike on September 13, 2008, and as they have done so many times in the past, Third Day came prepared to help. They turned the Music Builds Tour into the Music Re-Builds Tour to help raise money for hurricane victims. Television cameras were there to record the show. The audio portion was broadcast live on KSBJ radio and on their website (for a while, until they had technical difficulties that forced the live feed to cease). And this Friday, you can watch the entire Music Re-builds show, including interviews with some of the Gomers that were there. Here is the information you need to watch, either on TV in the Houston area, or on KSBJ's website.
 
Mayor Bill White and 89.3 KSBJ Special Events Partner To Raise Funds for Hurricane Ike Victims

HOUSTON (November 10, 2008) – To help those affected by Hurricane Ike and raise funds for Mayor Bill White’s Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund, the “Music Re-Builds Tour” Houston concert featuring Christian artists Third Day, Switchfoot and Robert Randolph & the Family Band will be re-broadcast Friday, November 14^th at 7 p.m. (CST) on HTV, HCCTV and Comcast (CH 76) as well as via webstream from www.ksbj.org.  Following the successful live performance at the Berry Center on October 3, the concert broadcast will encourage viewers and listeners to help those in need by calling 713-276-3901, visiting www.ksbj.org and mailing a donation to the Gulf Coast Ike Relief Fund, c/o The Greater Houston Community Foundation, 4550 Post Oak Place, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77027.
 
"We are grateful for the efforts of KSBJ Special Events and for the support of Red Light Management and bands of the 'Music Re-Builds Tour'," says Mayor Bill White.  "Rebuilding the Gulf Coast region depends on the financial stability of the established non-profit organizations that provide immediate and long-term relief to our communities. All of the funds generated will provide a solid platform for localized recovery from this devastating storm."

The televised broadcast, produced by HTV Houston and HCCTV, offers a hopeful message from Mayor Bill White along with an evening of live Contemporary Christian music, testimonies from relief organizations and messages of support from Houston celebrities such as the Astros and Houston Texans.

“The Music Re-Builds benefit concert in Houston is taking on new meaning as all the bands involved are eager to help those who suffered from Hurricane Ike by raising funds for the relief effort.  We are grateful for the opportunity to do something much bigger than rock and roll, to partner with Houston music fans to make a difference in the community,” said Chad Butler with Switchfoot.

"The people of Houston showed incredible generosity in their support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It is an honor to do all we can to help the City of Houston in their hour of need," commented Tai Anderson from Third Day.

A Winner Is Declared!

There has been a lot of voting going on lately! Many of you have done your country a great service and voted in the Presidential election. Many more of you (because there is no age limit to vote in this instance) have voted for Third Day to win the American Music Award. For that, Third Day, all the other Gomers, and I thank you! And now it's time to choose a winner in my Vote for Third Day contest.

I counted comments (there were 40, but only your first comment counts and a couple comments were mine, which brings it to 35 unique comments) and put the number into my handy-dandy random number picker, which came up with the number 29. Count down 29 unique comments and voilá! Our winner is Lori Hamlin!

Congratulations Lori! Lori's prize will depend on which Third Day CDs are missing from her collection. I'll augment this post with a photo of the prize after I talk to her.

Don't forget to watch the American Music Awards to see Third Day win the AMA for "Favorite Artist - Contemporary Inspirational"! It airs on ABC, Sunday, November 23, at 8/7 CT.

Gomers - Let's Raise $ for Habitat!

So you've read about the contest where you can win a spot to build a house with Habitat for Humanity and work with the guys from Third Day, Switchfoot, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and Jars of Clay, but you aren't really into that. You'd love to hang out with those guys and work with them, and you love the idea of spending the day doing something for someone else, and sitting in great seats that you didn't pay for at the Music Builds show that night with $1,000 in your pocket to pay for travel and lodgings sounds exciting, and sure, you'll take the band merch and the free copy of Revelation, but you just don't want to enter the contest. I understand. But you can still be involved.

You can help the Music Builds Tour bands raise money to help build houses across the United States by giving to Habitat for Humanity. All you have to do is to find one of those that have entered the contest by putting the widget onto their MySpace, and donate. By doing so, you will help deserving people build a home they can be proud of, and give them a brand new start in life! You will also help one of those participating in the contest win!

You may donate using this widget or the one on the Gomers MySpace. That won't help anyone win the contest, but it will help a family get a new home!

I'd like to see the Gomers really step up and help Third Day raise a lot of money for Habitat for Humanity! This is our chance to show we are more than just fans of Third Day, that we also walk along side them in their endeavor to make this a better world, and to bring people the love of Christ by caring for them in their time of need.
