What Gomers Listen to When They Aren't Listening to Third Day

Thought I'd share this so you will know what kind of crazy people I hang with. This was during GMA Week in Nashville this year. We had gone to see the Sunday Night Shout at The Station Inn with Mike Ferris and special guest Ashley Cleveland. Debbie and Janet fell in love with the rockin' gospel music. Debbie bought Mike's CD Salvation In Lights. We listened to it again, and again . . . and again . . . and . . . again . . . a n d . . . a g a i n . . . ad nauseum. Yeah, it wasn't really my cup of tea. And I don't know why. I loved it live. But anyway, we made a stop at a camera store. I went in and they waited in the car. This is what I saw when I came out. Ha ha! I love my friends.

Mark Lee’s Fav Third Day Shows

courtesy Dale Manning In this post on the Third Day blog, Mark talks about his top ten Third Day shows. He lists the 2004 Great Gomer Gathering in Houston, Texas, as his third favorite show. I started to put my comment there, but it started to get a little lengthy, so I decided this would be a better place.

That "sea of orange" in the audience was quite a sight! I'll never, ever forget it. I sent KSBJ email afterfrom the lawn email telling them that this was going to be the first Great Gomer Gathering, and could they help us surprise Third Day with a "sea of orange" by having everyone, all 14,000+ audience members, wear orange. How awesome that would be!!! Third Day would take the stage and be totally amazed at the love and support from the Orange in the Pit audience. It had been my fantasy for years (still is) that there would be tons of people at every show wearing Gomer shirts. This idea was just an exaggeration of that fantasy. I had no idea it could be as awesome as it was! At the concert, Dan and I walked all around the Pavilion, up on the grass hill, just looking at 12,000 or so people dressed in orange (there were about 2,000 hold outs). This may sound silly, but Sea of Orange I cried. It was so beautiful! There was so much love poured out to this band I loved, our chance to give back a little of the love Third Day had given to us for so many years. Later, Third Day's manager told me that when Tai exited the stage he told her, "It don't get no better than this." Mission accomplished!

Of course, now I have the problem of trying to figure out what the Gomers can do to top that! Any ideas?

Come On Home, Gomers!

Nothing to do with Third Day or Gomers But . . .

This is hilarious!

Of Kansas, and Third Day, and Dreams

There's a thread on the boards wherein people are sharing the dreams they've had involving Third Day. (Mac even replied to the thread.) I don't usually dream about Third Day, but last night I did, and it was bizarre. Well, the dream itself wasn't so bizarre, but just the way my brain took a little tiny fact, created this whole scenario around it, and presented it to me in a dream. I thought you might find it amusing, too.

So in this dream, my husband Dan, son Asher, two friends Debbie and Lori, and I are at a huge church to see Third Day. It's before the show and Debbie and I are running around lost in this church. The line at the ladies room was too long. Debbie had gone to this church before and found another one for us to use, and now we were trying to find our way back to where the concert was held. So we're running around lost, worried that we'll miss the beginning of the show, and we see Tai Anderson. Well, we don't want him to think we are where we aren't supposed to be, but we figure that he will be going back to the concert area, so we decide to stealthily follow him. (In real life, I would have just asked him to point us in the direction of the concert!) So we're ducking around corners, trying not to let him see us. And then Debbie figured out where we were, and that we could get where we needed to be if we went through the nursery/school area.

New Photo Album! Orange Elves at the Christmas Offerings Concerts

Third Day just finished touring with Jars of Clay on the Christmas Offerings tour. The shows were wonderful! And we Gomers, always showing our support for Third Day, wore orange Santa hats to the shows, to celebrate the season Gomer style! To the left, you will find a new photo album full of pictures of the Gomer festivities during the tour.

If you have photos of Gomers gatherings during the Christmas Offerings tour, especially photos of Gomers in orange Santa hats, please email them to me, so I can add them to the album. (Most of the Gomers in the photos must be wearing orange.)

I couldn't share this with you before

And it's only slightly Third Day or Gomer oriented, but these guys are just so sweet to do this for me that I had to share it! Okay, let me back up a little. This is DecembeRadio. They are touring with Third Day next year. They are really good friends of mine, and I think you'll love them once you give them a listen. Debbie aka Aunt Gomer came to Texas for the Third Day/Jars of Clay Christmas Offerings shows in San Antonio and Houston. (Pictures going up from these shows soon! Look for new photo albums on the left.) I had a surprise party for her (which was also our Houston Gomer Christmas party). At this party, I played a DVD with birthday wishes from about 8 Gomers who couldn't be there. It was so sweet of everyone to do that! And of course, it made Debbie cry (goal accomplished!) This is the video the guys sent me for Debbie.

Besides having DecembeRadio sing to her, and having a surprise Gomer birthday party, and seeing two Third Day shows back-to-back, Debbie was also blessed by having everyone at the WIRED Meet and Greet after the San Antonio show sing to her! I think this was a birthday she will always remember! I know I will!

Two fork toothpick trick

Absolutely nothing to do with Third Day or Gomers, unless you consider that I was checking the Gomer MySpace when I found it, but I thought this was so cool that I had to show you. Half-way through, I realized that my mouth was hanging open in amazement. I haven't tried it myself yet, but if any of you do, please tell us if it worked for you or not.

Gomer Weight Loss Challenge

So have you ever wondered how much exercise you can get dancing at a concert? Well, I have, and I found out. But first a little back story. Three months ago, I decided to get serious and lose some weight and get into shape. Towards that end, I started wearing a pedometer everyday. The idea is to walk about 10,000 steps per day. The average person walks this much, and it's equal to about five miles, depending on your stride. So I wore it to a couple of concerts. I went to see Family Force 5 one night and TobyMac another night. At the TobyMac show, I danced 6,000 steps!!! Now that was a rockin' show! At the FF5 show, I danced 4,000 steps. That show super rocked, but I think my pedometer was hampered by the fact that I was standing on a couch the whole time. Much easier way to see, but not as easy to move. Now you may think that that wasn't really walking steps so it doesn't count, but movement is the goal, and I can tell you I was moving! Anyway, all this to tell you that if you are interested in losing weight, there are a group of Gomers that are encouraging each other in that goal. If you are moving toward that same goal, please come join us. I've lost 18 pounds so far, and it's kinda fun! Come read my weight loss blog to see how I'm doing it! You can also see what five pounds of fat looks like there. Yuck!

Orange Santa Hats for the Christmas Tour

Artmaster_santas_cap_2What does the well-dressed Gomer wear to a Third Day Christmas Offerings show? Why an orange Santa hat, of course! We are ordering them from www.TeamSantaHats.com. It's the only place I've found on the web that will make Santa hats in orange. They have many colors to choose from for each part of the hat, but we are going with a traditional white pompom on top, and white fur brim, with the orange body. You can have them embroider your Gomer name right onto the brim of your hat, or save $5, skip the embroidery, and use glitter glue to put your Gomer name on for yourself. For the embroidery, I’d suggest black, orange, navy or royal blue. I like the blues, because that’s the color I’ve always associated with Third Day, and because the Christmas Offerings CD cover is blue. You can order your hat(s) here, but hurry so you will get them in time for the show.

If you are crafty you can buy some orange fur and sew your own Gomer Santa hats!

Take pictures of yourself and your family and Gomer buddies in your orange Santa hats and send them to me. I’ll put them up in the Gomer Family Album to the left! Let’s show our Gomer colors and have some fun this Christmas.

Rockin' Rob . . . er, Hummingbird

Two years ago, I shot this video of a hummingbird in my backyard. I don't know what her deal was, but she was just sitting on a branch, bobbing up and down. It was so weird and funny. So I video'd it, thinking that it would sound great with music put to it. I was right. (There's another version, a Family Force 5 version, here.)

A Third Day/Gomer Rarity

I got an email today from MusicChristian.com. They are having a limited offer on the Live Wire CD/DVD Gomer Edition Fan pack! I thought those were sold out long ago. I guess they have a few left (hence the "very limited" and "Supplies WILL run out" wording in the email). I looked around the internet, but didn't find anyone else who still had these. So while you are waiting for Chronology to come out in March, nab this collector's item while they can still be bought somewhere besides ebay, and start celebrating!

Send Your Christmas Greetings to Third Day

Thank you to everyone who has already sent in Christmas greetings for Third Day! I'm extending the deadline until noon Christmas Eve (Central Time). I want to get as many as possible to send to them. If you'd like to send the band your Holiday wishes, please see this post for instructions, and send them in soon.

Send Christmas Greetings to Third Day

Gomertopia_christmas_tree_1 It's Christmastime, the time we send our thoughts of good will and warm wishes to friends and family. If you'd like to include Third Day on your Christmas card list this year, I have just the thing. I am collecting email greetings from you and combining all of them into one long email for the band. If you want to send Third Day your Christmas and New Year's greetings, these are the requirements.

  • Keep it short, about 100 words.
  • You may include a picture, but keep it small. The best size would be if the longer side of the picture is no more than 200 pixels.
  • The deadline is Friday, December 22 at midnight.
  • Email your holiday greetings for Third Day to me at MamaGomer@Gomers.net with the subject line Merry Christmas Third Day.

I know the band will love reading your Christmas letter, so get it in soon!
