Welcome to Gomertopia!
Several years ago a group of our online fans got together and decided to start calling themselves “Gomers”. The idea came from our song “Gomer’s Theme”, which references the Bible story about Hosea marrying a prostitute. Just like Gomer was unworthy and Hosea loved her anyway, we are all unworthy, yet God loves us anyway.
From that little idea, the Gomer phenomenon took on a life of its own. Gomer names were created, and then Gomer shirts. It has been amazing to watch a community develop and flourish to the point that it truly feels like a family now. We can travel anywhere in the country, and even around the world, and feel like we’re at home when we see the familiar orange shirts. But it’s not just about the band – many friendships and lasting relationships have developed through the Gomer community, and “Gomer gatherings” have become commonplace. Gomers have also taken the lead in fundraising efforts for Hurricane Katrina and other great causes.
For the last year or so, we’ve sensed a desire to take the Gomer idea to the next level. That’s where Gomertopia comes in. There was talk of having a formal “fan club” or “fan website” complete with membership fees, but something didn’t feel right about that. The Gomer community has always been a grassroots, fan driven thing, and it needs to stay that way. We just want to create a place for it to grow even more. To start with, Gomertopia will feature
Advance tickets
Meet and Greet opportunities
Music and video giveaways
Ignite devotionals
Great Gomer Gathering info
Mama Gomer's Blog
Contests
Inside band information
Information on how to join our humanitarian efforts
...But we know that over time this will evolve into whatever you guys want it to be. Because that’s how it should be.
It’s not a fan club. It’s Gomertopia.
